It was gathered that the crash involved an 18-passenger Totota Hiace bus and a truck.

The two vehicles were said to have had a head-on collision leading to the bus catching fire and burning 16 of its occupants.

However, three people were said to have survived the crash.

The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Ibitoye Samuel, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Samuel said the accident was caused by overspeeding and wrongful overtaking by the vehicles involved. He added that the rescue operation ended at about 11 pm and the deceased had been taken to the mortuary of the State Specialists Hospital in Ondo town.
