Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the return of the Ounjè Eko Sunday market, offering a 25% discount on essential food items. The market is set to resume operations this Sunday.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, through a post on X. Omotoso shared that the directive was confirmed by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, during a media briefing in Lagos on Wednesday.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that the Sunday market Ounjè Eko with a 25% cut in prices should return on Sunday. Agric and Food Systems Commissioner Abisola Olusanya tells the media – all is set. Lagosians, are you ready?” Omotoso’s post read.
The Ounjè Eko markets, which initially launched in March and ran for several weeks, offer Lagos residents a 25% discount on staple food items such as rice, beans, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper. The markets will be available at 27 locations in Ikeja, six in Lagos Island, nine in Ikorodu, five in Epe, and ten in Badagry divisions.
