Bay FC faced off against UEFA Champions League titleholders, FC Barcelona in a friendly match at PayPal Park, where they were defeated 5-2 in front of 14,187 fans.
Bay FC played 21 players throughout the match, with first-half goals from Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala and Zambia’s Racheal Kundananji. Barcelona’s Kika Nazareth and Ewa Pajor responded with goals in the first half, while Mapi León, Claudia Pina, and Patri Guijarro added three more in the second half to secure the victory.
Oshoala opened the scoring against her former club in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a goalkeeper error to put Bay FC ahead 1-0. Barcelona quickly equalized in the 21st minute through Kika Nazareth, who netted a well-placed shot from the edge of the box. Kundananji restored Bay FC’s lead in the 32nd minute by pouncing on a rebound after a save, but Barcelona responded swiftly with Caroline Graham Hansen leveling the match again at 2-2.
In the second half, Bay FC made eight substitutions, including goalkeeper Emmie Allen, who made crucial saves in the 63rd minute to keep the match tied. However, Barcelona took the lead in the 68th minute when Mapi León scored directly from a corner kick. The Catalan club sealed their win with two long-range goals in stoppage time from Claudia Pina and Patri Guijarro, bringing the final score to 5-2.
