In a six-count charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, a British citizen, Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich), was also named as a defendant. The charge sheet, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/454/2024, accuses the defendants of treason, conspiring to destabilize the country, intimidating the President, and destroying the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Kano, among other allegations.

The IG claims the protesters acted in concert between July 1 and August 4, 2024, with the intention of destabilizing Nigeria, in violation of Section 95 and punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code. Furthermore, the defendants are accused of inciting public disturbance, attacking police officers, and damaging multiple government buildings in collaboration with Wynne, a British citizen.

Egbetokun emphasized that these actions constituted an offence under Section 410 and Section 416 of the Penal Code (Northern States) Federal Provisions Act CAP P3 LEN 204.
