The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Nigerian government to swiftly reverse the recent hike in petrol prices across the country.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, the NLC made its position clear, stating, “We demand the immediate reversal of the latest increase in the pump price of PMS across the country.”
The NLC’s dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s administration was previously expressed after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) raised the official fuel price from N617 to N897 per litre. NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that the union had accepted the N70,000 minimum wage on the understanding that there would be no further increases in fuel prices.
Ajaero also hinted at possible actions, warning that the NLC’s decision-making bodies will soon convene to discuss their next steps, with decisions to be announced in the coming days.
