The Borno State Government has announced a two-week closure of all government and private schools due to severe flooding across the state.

This decision was revealed in a statement from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation on Monday, following an inspection of the Alo Dam, a key water reservoir fed by Lake Chad. Heavy rainfall caused leakages in the dam’s banks, leading to floods in many riverine and flood-prone communities.

The closure comes shortly after the 2024/2025 academic session resumed on September 9, 2024.

According to the statement, signed by the Acting Director of School Services, Grema Bulama, the State Secretary to the Government, Bukar Tijjani, visited the dam on the directive of Governor Babagana Zulum to assess the situation. The dam has been a major source of water supply and has also contributed to flooding in the state capital in recent years.

This development coincides with similar announcements from Edo and Kano States, which have indefinitely closed schools due to rising petrol prices.Borno State Shuts Schools for Two Weeks Amid Flooding Crisis
