The House of Representatives passed a resolution on Thursday to investigate bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) by social media influencer, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance introduced by Patrick Umoh, the representative for Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State.
In his address, Umoh raised concerns about the widely circulated accusations by VeryDarkMan, which implicated the EFCC and NCS. He highlighted that the allegations claim the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, after allegedly receiving N15,000,000.
Umoh also noted that Bobrisky, despite being convicted for abusing and defacing the Naira, reportedly did not serve his sentence within the Nigerian Correctional Service but stayed outside its confines.

Expressing concern over these serious allegations against two key law enforcement agencies, Umoh emphasized that the EFCC and NCS were established to combat corruption and manage the correction of convicted persons.

After the motion’s adoption, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas referred the matter to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, with instructions to report to the House within three legislative weeks for further action.
