The Federal Government has announced its readiness to commence the payment of the newly approved minimum wage to civil servants.
Bawa Mokwa, the Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday. Mokwa confirmed that civil servants under the federal payroll should expect notifications regarding their updated salaries starting today.
However, Mokwa did not specify whether the new minimum wage payments would include any outstanding arrears.
He stated, “Federal Government civil servants will start receiving the new minimum wage from today, this September 2024. What I can confirm is that the payment is effective today, but I am unsure about the arrears.”
It should be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 on July 18, 2024.
