Ten people, including three children and seven adults, lost their lives in a fatal accident on Tuesday night at Abule Osun along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The crash occurred around 11 PM when a Toyota Sienna vehicle, filled to capacity, collided with a stationary truck loaded with granite.
In a statement on Wednesday, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), revealed that three other individuals sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Investigations revealed that the Sienna, speeding at the time, crashed into the truck, which had been parked on the road, blocking half of the carriageway. Oke-Osanyintolu explained, “The Toyota Sienna, registration BDG 342 FS, was traveling from the Eastern part of the country and failed to avoid the stationary SHACMAN truck.”
The deceased include three male adults, four female adults, two female children, and one male child. The injured were rescued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) before the LASEMA team arrived and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The crashed Sienna has been towed to the FRSC station, while the bodies of the victims await evacuation by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.
