President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed gratitude on Tuesday for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supportive remarks following the Super Eagles’ difficult Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match experience in Libya.

President Tinubu stated on Monday, welcoming the team back and calling for swift justice from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the mistreatment of the Nigerian delegation.

Gusau appreciated the President’s recognition of the proactive efforts by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development to ensure the team’s safe return.

“We deeply thank His Excellency, President Tinubu, for his encouraging words. They have reassured the players of the Government’s unwavering support for their sacrifices in representing Nigeria,” Gusau said.

He also highlighted the presence of the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, at the airport to welcome the team back, calling it a clear demonstration of the nation’s commitment to football and national unity.
Gusau, who led the delegation to Libya, also praised the ValueJet crew, especially the captain, Mr. Abdul-Latif, for their professionalism and endurance during the trip. He acknowledged the captain’s efforts, including advocating for the NFF leadership during a challenging situation at the airport and opting to stay with his crew on the aircraft instead of accepting accommodation. “The captain and crew showed remarkable patience and kindness, making a tough trip more bearable. We will never forget their professionalism,” Gusau stated.
