The family of former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has confirmed that his body will arrive at the Roman Catholic Church in Haenertsburg, Limpopo, this afternoon. His remains will lie in state before being transported to his home village of Sasekani near Nkowankowa for public viewing.
Mboweni passed away last weekend at the age of 65 in a Johannesburg hospital.
His niece, Nhlamulo Mboweni, explained the day’s proceedings: “We are awaiting the arrival of Mr. Mboweni’s remains from Johannesburg. The body will travel through Magoebaskloof before reaching his home village in Sasekani.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy during the Special Official Funeral Category 2, with ceremonial honors provided by the South African Police Service. Former President Thabo Mbeki and Deputy President Paul Mashatile will also be in attendance.
The family has requested that the public gather at the Nkowankowa Stadium rather than the family home to allow them privacy during their mourning period.
