Expressing concern over reports of post-election violence following the General Elections held on October 9, 2024, Mahamat emphasized the need for peaceful conduct during this critical period. He reminded that the African Union had deployed a short-term election observer mission to monitor the elections.

Mahamat called on all political actors and their supporters to remain calm and exercise restraint as the nation awaits the Constitutional Council’s official declaration of the final results. He urged respect for due process in the interest of maintaining stability in Mozambique.
