President Bola Tinubu has implemented a significant reshuffle of his ministerial cabinet, which includes the merging of two ministries and the elimination of others. This decision was finalized during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Wednesday, as confirmed by the president’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
In the statement, Onanuga revealed that the president has officially scrapped the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development. In their place, a new Ministry of Regional Development has been created to oversee regional commissions, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
Furthermore, the National Sports Commission will now assume the responsibilities formerly held by the Ministry of Sports Development, streamlining the management of sports affairs in the country.
Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism has been merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, enhancing the synergy between these sectors to drive cultural tourism and economic growth.
These changes are part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to optimize governance and improve efficiency across various ministries.
