Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface found the net as his team played a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga on Saturday.

The 23-year-old missed Leverkusen’s midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Brest but returned to Xabi Alonso’s starting lineup for the match at Weser Stadion.

Boniface opened the scoring in the 30th minute, scoring his sixth league goal of the season from a Jeremie Frimpong cross.

While Leverkusen pressed for a second goal in the first half, Werder Bremen came out strong in the second half. Boniface was substituted in the 70th minute for Patrik Schick. Just four minutes later, Werder equalized with a brilliant finish from Marvin Ducksch, following a well-placed through ball from Julian Malatini.

Leverkusen regained the lead shortly after, thanks to an own goal from Felix Agu, who inadvertently deflected a blocked shot from Schick into his own net. However, the lead was short-lived. In the 90th minute, Nigeria-eligible attacker Felix Njinmah provided an assist for Romano Schmidt, who fired a powerful shot from outside the box that sailed past goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

With this draw, Leverkusen sits third in the Bundesliga, five points behind league leaders RB Leipzig.
