Sheikh Khalifa Usman Idris, affectionately known as Rigi-Rigi, a renowned Islamic scholar from Zaria, has died after a prolonged illness.
His son-in-law, Malama Abubakar Ɗanyaro, confirmed the news to Daily Trust, stating that the cleric passed away Sunday night at a private hospital in Kaduna.
Sheikh Rigi-Rigi was known for his humorous preaching style, and his sermons were widely popular on social media.
He was hospitalized at 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna before being transferred to a private hospital in Barnawa, Kaduna, where he ultimately passed away.
The funeral prayer is scheduled to take place on Monday, after Asr prayer, at his residence in the Kusfa area of Zaria.
Sheikh Rigi-Rigi is survived by four wives, 37 children, and many grandchildren.
