The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained lawmaker Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja. FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed that Ikwechegh is currently being questioned at the Maitama Police Station.
According to a police statement issued Monday, the incident began when Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, who was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwechegh, reported an altercation over the delivery method. During the dispute, Abuwatseya claims he was physically assaulted.
The FCT Police Command expressed concern over Ikwechegh’s response following the alleged slap, as he reportedly dismissed law enforcement authority by saying, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” showing apparent disregard for the Inspector General’s office.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. “The Command is committed to an impartial investigation and ensuring justice in all cases. Appropriate legal action will be taken following the investigation,” the statement added.
