The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens in Libya following a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the Libyan Football Association.

The CAF decision cited Libya for allegedly mistreating the Nigerian team during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match.

In a statement signed by spokesperson, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe on Sunday, the Ministry confirmed that Nigerians in Libya are safe and able to go about their daily activities without interference from Libyan authorities.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that, as of the time of this statement, Nigerians in Libya are continuing their daily activities without any form of harassment from Libyan authorities.
This assurance follows CAF’s verdict, which held the Libyan Football Association accountable for the mistreatment of the Nigerian team and officials while they were in Libya for a Nations Cup Qualifying Match.”

The statement further emphasized, “The well-being of Nigerian citizens worldwide remains a top priority of the Federal Government, which will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard it at all times.”
