Former President Muhammadu Buhari visited Maiduguri, Borno State, on Tuesday to offer condolences and support following the devastating floods that recently ravaged the region, claiming lives and causing widespread destruction of homes, properties, and livestock.
Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, shared in a statement on X that the former president was warmly received by Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume, and other local leaders. Shehu noted that Buhari was away on vacation when the floods struck but felt compelled to return to personally console the affected communities.
During his visit, Buhari paid his respects to the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Majesty Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, and met with key state officials to express his condolences. The flood, which hit Maiduguri in September, impacted nearly one million residents, displacing at least 414,000 people and tragically resulting in 30 fatalities.
