Britain’s Prince William visited South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday in Cape Town, following a nature walk with rangers and conservationists at Table Mountain National Park.
The Prince of Wales is on a four-day visit to South Africa for the annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday.
His agenda includes attending a global wildlife summit and engaging in climate-focused events.
In a video released by Ramaphosa’s office, William and the South African leader were seen warmly greeting each other and exchanging pleasantries at the start of their meeting.
South Africa’s presidency expressed the visit as a reflection of the deep-rooted ties between the United Kingdom and South Africa, noting the historic and ongoing connection shared with the British Royal Family.
South Africa expressed pride in hosting the prestigious Earthshot Prize awards, highlighting the urgent issues of climate change and environmental degradation facing the African continent.
Founded in 2020, the Earthshot Prize awards five winners annually with 1 million pounds ($1.3 million) each to support groundbreaking projects addressing environmental challenges.
