The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has successfully uploaded 98.53% of the results from the Ondo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal. By 8:34 pm on Saturday, results from 3,875 of the 3,933 polling units had been made available online.
Eighteen political parties participated in the election, but the contest is primarily viewed as a two-horse race between incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Interestingly, both candidates share a unique connection: they previously served as deputy governors under the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away last year. Aiyedatiwa took over the leadership of the state following Akeredolu’s demise.
The election, which commenced at 8 am across the 3,933 polling units, was largely peaceful. In some areas, voting ended around 2:30 pm, allowing for the prompt sorting and counting of ballots. Electoral materials were delivered to some locations as early as 6 am, ensuring a smooth start to the process.
