Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the formation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee to investigate the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, will be inaugurated on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Government House in Benin City.
The committee’s formation is part of Okpebholo’s initiative to promote development, accountability, and transparency in governance.
Despite repeated calls, Obaseki’s administration provided limited information on the state’s assets and liabilities, prompting the need for a comprehensive investigation.
Other members of the committee include Anslem Ojezua, Frank Edebor, Kassim Afegbua, Patrick Ikhariale, and Rasaq Bello-Osagie, among others.
This development comes after Okpebholo pledged to investigate the exclusion of 14 lawmakers from the State House of Assembly in 2019 and ordered a probe into the state civil service recruitment under Obaseki.
