Rivers United reclaimed their position at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings with a narrow 1-0 victory over visiting Kano Pillars, while closest challengers Remo Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat at Niger Tornadoes.

Aniekeme Okon’s first-half strike secured all three points for Rivers United, pushing them to the summit with 29 points from 15 matches. Remo Stars slipped to second place with 26 points, three behind the new league leaders.
Ikorodu City continued their impressive form, thrashing Akwa United 4-1 to move into third place with 24 points.

Heartland FC also recorded a vital win at home, edging out Nasarawa United 3-2. NPFL’s leading scorer Anas Yusuf ended his four-match goal drought by scoring just before halftime to level for Nasarawa United at 1-1. However, the visitors eventually succumbed to defeat. Heartland now sit ninth on the table with 20 points.
In Maiduguri, Bayelsa United held El Kanemi Warriors to a goalless draw, while Katsina United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars on home turf.
The battle for NPFL supremacy remains tight, with Rivers United regaining momentum and other teams, including Ikorodu City and Heartland FC, making strides in the standings.
