The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit alcoholic beverages valued at over ₦180 million following a raid on a makeshift factory in the Oke Arin market, Lagos Island.

In a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, the agency revealed that the operation was carried out after receiving a complaint about the illegal production of alcoholic drinks in the area.
During the raid, three suspects were arrested, and a variety of counterfeit products, empty bottles, and packaging materials were seized.

“The products, valued at over ₦180 million, included fake versions of popular brands,” NAFDAC stated. “The main suspect, Mr. Tochukwu Henry, admitted to refilling bottles labeled as Rémy Martin with ST-Rémy contents and employing two others to assist in the operation.”
The agency emphasized that the suspects are in custody as investigations continue. It urged the public to exercise caution, particularly during the festive season, and to report any suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office.

This operation underscores NAFDAC’s ongoing commitment to protecting public health by combating counterfeit and substandard products in the Nigerian market.
