Türkiye’s state-run aid agency, TIKA, has renovated and equipped a training and rehabilitation center for young women in Buikwe, eastern Uganda. The center now provides vital services, including business skills development, vocational training, psychosocial support, and reintegration programs for women and girls in need of rehabilitation.
As part of the project, TIKA supplied 25 sewing machines, fabrics for garment production, water tanks, and other essential items to support rehabilitation efforts.
Speaking at the handover ceremony on Tuesday, TIKA Country Coordinator Murat Cetin highlighted the project’s goal to enhance the quality and sustainability of the center’s services.

“We are committed to improving access to a range of rehabilitation services. This important project, brought to our attention by the area’s woman member of parliament, Diana Mutasingwa, was made possible through the support of the Turkish people via TIKA,” Cetin stated.
He emphasized the need to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the center, which now features modernized facilities to serve beneficiaries in a safer and cleaner environment.
Diana Mutasingwa, Buikwe’s woman member of parliament and a state minister in the vice president’s office, expressed her gratitude to TIKA for its steadfast support of Ugandans. She emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to foster economic growth and social progress in the region.
The renovated center is expected to play a pivotal role in empowering women and girls, equipping them with skills and opportunities to transform their lives and contribute to their communities.
