An Allied Air cargo aircraft, identified by registration number 5N-JRT, made an emergency crash landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja on Wednesday morning due to a failure in one of its landing gears.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:05 a.m., involved an E-Cargo aircraft carrying six crew members. Fortunately, all crew members were unharmed, and no casualties were reported.
Emergency responders quickly mobilized, evacuating the crew members and transporting them for medical assessments at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit. The Military Airport Commandant (MAC), along with other relevant agencies, secured the crash site and cordoned off the area.
As a result of the emergency landing, the airport’s runway was temporarily closed, causing significant delays for both inbound and outbound flights. Authorities from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the airport are working to remove the disabled aircraft and conduct a thorough inspection of the runway for any potential damage.
In a tweet, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA advised passengers to expect delays, urging them to be patient and orderly as the situation is resolved.
