A brazen attack on the Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State, North-West Nigeria, has left a medical doctor and another person injured, while three others were kidnapped by the assailants.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when rampaging bandits invaded the hospital, shooting Dr. Murtala Saleh in the right thigh and Kamala Suleiman in the knee ¹.
According to police reports, both victims are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
However, the attack took a more sinister turn when the bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles, kidnapped three other persons during the onslaught.
Police spokesman Abubakar Aliyu confirmed that policemen in the area engaged the marauders in a gun duel, but unfortunately, the kidnappings occurred despite their efforts.
The police have assured that efforts are being made to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aliyu Musa, has condemned the “senseless attack on healthcare workers and facilities,” and has ordered the deployment of additional operational assets to the scene to improve security and intensify the manhunt for the assailants.
