Zambia and the United Kingdom have finalized five pivotal agreements aimed at advancing renewable energy, poverty alleviation, and enhancing capacity in revenue and customs.
The agreements were signed at a ceremony held at the State House in Harare, with UK Minister for International Development and Women Equalities, Anneliese Dodds, representing her government, while Zambia was represented by Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Ambrose Lufuma, Community Development Minister Doreen Mwamba, and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Dingani Banda. President Hakainde Hichilema attended to witness the occasion.
The agreements focus on fostering green growth and improving access to climate finance, including the creation of a dedicated climate finance unit. In a prior meeting with the UK Minister, President Hichilema emphasized the long-standing partnership between Zambia and the UK, expressing Zambia’s readiness to collaborate on addressing climate change, which has exacerbated energy and food insecurity in various regions of the country.
Minister Dodds praised Zambia’s efforts to revitalize its economy and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to partnering with Zambia in building a sustainable and resilient economy for the future.
