The National Assembly is considering shifting President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to Wednesday, according to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Speaking to journalists after Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, Idris clarified that only the National Assembly has the authority to determine the timing of the president’s budget presentation.
“There is ongoing engagement with the National Assembly, and it is likely that the presentation will now take place on Wednesday,” Idris stated.
President Tinubu was initially scheduled to present the budget on Tuesday. This marks his second full budget presentation since assuming office in May 2023.

Earlier this month, the Senate approved the 2025–2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), setting the stage for the upcoming budget. The approved framework includes a total spending plan of ₦47.9 trillion, supported by a borrowing plan of ₦9.22 trillion, split between domestic and foreign loans.
Key highlights of the framework include an exchange rate of ₦1,400 to a dollar and projected oil prices of $75, $76.2, and $75.3 per barrel for 2025, 2026, and 2027, respectively.
The MTEF serves as the foundation for the nation’s budget, outlining the federal government’s three-year spending and revenue projections.
