Scores of ISWAP fighters have reportedly been killed following a precision airstrike by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Malam Fatori, Borno State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the operation took place on December 15 after intelligence reports revealed that insurgents were converging in the area.
Quoting intelligence sources, the report noted that reconnaissance missions identified several vehicles and motorcycles being used for militant movements and logistical support. In response, military aircraft equipped with advanced surveillance capabilities were deployed to the area.
The strikes were executed with pinpoint accuracy, resulting in the destruction of vehicles, motorcycles, and a significant loss of equipment for the insurgents.
“Sources from the area described a series of explosions that reverberated through the town, with thick plumes of smoke rising from the targeted locations,” the report stated.
The operation reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on the militants, with estimates suggesting dozens of ISWAP fighters were killed.
The airstrikes in Malam Fatori are part of a broader strategy under Operation Hadin Kai to restore peace and security to northeastern Nigeria. The aerial assault complements ongoing ground operations, as military forces continue to engage ISWAP elements in the region.
Air superiority has been identified as a critical factor in the success of these coordinated efforts to dismantle insurgent strongholds.
