Hosts ,Ghana emerged victorious in the first-ever WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup on Sunday, defeating a spirited Nigerian side 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Accra.

The thrilling final had ended 2-2 in regulation time, forcing a shootout where the Maidens converted all five spot kicks while Nigeria missed one.
Ghana took an early lead through Gertrude Amoafo’s 14th-minute strike, and Priscilla Mensah doubled the advantage just five minutes later. However, Nigeria mounted an impressive comeback, with Precious Oscar reducing the deficit in the 34th minute via a powerful volley. Harmony Chidi’s stunning long-range goal in the 78th minute brought the Flamingos level, setting up a dramatic finale.

In the shootout, defender Taiwo Adegoke’s miss proved costly for Nigeria, allowing Ghana to secure the title. Despite the loss, the Flamingos delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, scoring 16 goals in four matches while conceding only four.

In the third-place match earlier in the day, Benin Republic edged Côte d’Ivoire in another penalty shootout to claim the bronze medal.
