The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 10 passengers following an attack by suspected armed bandits at Kwanar Makera, Jibia Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the incident occurred on December 24 at about 8:30 p.m. when armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, ambushed a commercial vehicle traveling along the Katsina-Magama-Jibia road.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun duel. The officers successfully rescued all 10 passengers.
However, four victims sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, two of them succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
ASP Aliyu confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, commended the officers for their bravery and urged them to maintain their commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He also encouraged the public to provide timely and credible information to aid in the fight against crime.
