Former Umgungundlovu District Mayor, Yusuf Bhamjee, has passed away at the age of 74.
Bhamjee was redeployed by the African National Congress (ANC) from the KwaZulu-Natal legislature to the district in 2008 to address challenges and improve governance.
He served as mayor until 2016, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to public service and transformation.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal expressed their condolences, describing Bhamjee as a champion of transformation and service delivery. He will be laid to rest today.
ANC KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Mafika Mndebele, highlighted Bhamjee’s significant contribution to sports activism, for which he was honored with the Andrew Mlangeni Green Jacket.
“The ANC in KZN is mourning the passing of Comrade Yusuf Bhamjee. He was one of our pioneers at Umgungundlovu District and carried out his responsibilities with care and precision. As a movement, we have lost one of the most dedicated and loyal servants of the people. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones,” said Mndebele.
