The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a prominent Lagos socialite, 61-year-old Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, popularly known as “Iya Ruka”, over her alleged involvement in a large-scale illicit drug operation.

In a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency revealed that Alhaja Ajoke, who has been on their wanted list for years, was apprehended on New Year’s Day at her mansion in Okota, Lagos. Her arrest followed the interception of a white Izuzu truck transporting 44 jumbo sacks containing 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis. The truck was driven by her staff member, 41-year-old Abideen Adio.

Despite her public persona as a successful importer of fabrics and shoes from China and her status as the Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters—a prestigious Lagos social club—NDLEA investigations revealed her deep ties to a notorious drug cartel operating from the Mushin area of Lagos.

The agency’s operation at her residence, located at 33 Adebayo Oyewole Street, Ago Palace Way, exposed the facade behind her thriving business empire, uncovering her alleged central role in the illegal drug trade.

Further investigations are ongoing as NDLEA intensifies efforts to dismantle the cartel.
