Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists launched a deadly assault on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
The attack resulted in an unconfirmed number of Nigerian soldiers killed, with several others reported missing.
Security sources revealed that the terrorists stormed the Sabon Gari camp around 4 a.m., heavily armed, and engaged troops in an intense battle lasting over two hours.
At least seven bodies have been recovered so far, while several buildings and military vehicles were set ablaze during the raid.
The attack highlights ISWAP’s growing dominance in the Lake Chad region following the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.
The group has bolstered its ranks with defecting Boko Haram fighters, enhancing its operational strength.
Despite the persistent threat, the Nigerian Army remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace to the region.
