President Bola Tinubu has urged the Chinese government to increase the $2 billion currency swap between Nigeria and China to enhance trade and investment between the two nations.

The President made this request while receiving China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, at the State House in Abuja.

Tinubu emphasized that the current level of currency swaps is inadequate for Nigeria’s programs and urged China to increase it to speed up infrastructural development and deepen bilateral relations.

He also called for a review of the $50 billion aid package for Africa, announced by China’s President Xi Jinping last year, citing the continent’s vast infrastructural needs.

Additionally, Tinubu sought China’s support for Nigeria’s bid for a permanent United Nations Security Council seat and thanked President Xi Jinping for his warm reception during his visit to China last year.

The President expressed Nigeria’s readiness to meet developmental goals and contribute counterpart project funding, highlighting the signing of several comprehensive MOUs during his visit to China.
