Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially presented the staff and instrument of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade.
The ceremony took place at the Exco Chambers of the Governor’s office in Ibadan on Monday.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Deputy Governor Bayo-Lawal, former Oyo Speaker Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, High Chiefs from Oyo Town, and religious leaders. Notably absent, however, were members of the Oyomesi.
The new Alaafin’s appointment comes over two years after the demise of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, in April 2022.
Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade’s emergence was announced by the Oyo State government, following his selection through Ifa divination performed by Prof. Wande Abimbola, the revered Ifa Custodian.
