Egypt has announced its readiness to host an international conference aimed at rebuilding the Gaza Strip once a cease-fire is secured between Israel and the Palestinians.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdealatty stated, “Egypt is ready, when conditions permit after the Gaza cease-fire, to host an international conference for the reconstruction of the territory.” He emphasized the urgent need for political will to finalize a cease-fire agreement.
Meanwhile, Qatar has indicated that negotiations for a cease-fire are in their “final details,” with an agreement announcement expected imminently. Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari revealed that both Hamas and Israel have received a draft agreement, and significant progress has been made to overcome major obstacles.
Hamas confirmed that a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement is nearing completion, with Palestinian sources suggesting the deal could be finalized by Friday.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in over 46,600 deaths, predominantly women and children, according to reports. Despite calls for an immediate cease-fire by the UN Security Council, Israel’s military operations continue.
Legal repercussions for Israel have intensified. In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the enclave.
