Ivory Coast International, Amad Diallo delivered a sensational late hat-trick as Manchester United pulled off a thrilling comeback to defeat Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

United appeared to be heading for a fourth consecutive home defeat in the top flight for the first time since 1930. They struggled to break down a Southampton side that had only one league win all season and were reeling from a 5-0 home loss to Brentford in their previous match.
However, Diallo, fresh off signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract, had other plans. Initially deployed as a wing-back, the Ivorian was moved into an attacking role and turned the game around single-handedly.

The 21-year-old equalized nine minutes from time, surging into the box and capitalizing on a fortunate rebound to fire past Aaron Ramsdale. In the first minute of stoppage time, he combined brilliantly with Christian Eriksen, latching onto the Dane’s chipped pass and slotting home with a first-time finish.
Diallo completed his hat-trick moments later, intercepting a poor touch from Taylor Harwood-Bellis off Ramsdale’s pass, and calmly rolling the ball into an empty net.

Manchester United Head coach, Ruben Amorim praised Diallo’s impact but noted there is room for growth. “He did a great job, but he has a lot to improve,” Amorim said. “He has the same responsibility as every player who plays for Manchester United. He’s in a great moment and having a very good season.”

Southampton’s spirited display deserved more, but they were left empty-handed, with their only goal coming from a Manuel Ugarte own goal off a corner. For much of the match, United’s performance validated Amorim’s concerns about the team’s inconsistency against lower-tier opponents, despite recent strong outings against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Still, Diallo, who has flourished under Amorim’s guidance, refused to let the game slip away. His electrifying performance earned him the match ball and the adoration of the Old Trafford faithful as he exited to rapturous applause.
