A group of at least 20 armed bandits launched a daring attack on Chikakore community in Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday evening, kidnapping five residents, including a family of three.
The attackers, who were armed with guns, invaded the Health Centre extension axis of Chikakore around 11 pm, forcing their way into the homes of their victims.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits kidnapped Adesiyan Akinropo, his wife, son, and a visitor, as well as another neighbor.
The attackers also injured a woman on the head with the butt of a gun, leaving her bleeding profusely. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The police arrived at the scene about an hour and a half after the incident, but the bandits had already escaped with their hostages.
Community leaders and police operatives have scheduled a meeting to discuss the incident and possible solutions.
Residents of Chikakore community are calling for increased police presence in the area, citing the need for a police division to be established in the community.
The community has already donated land and a five-bedroom apartment to accommodate the police, but deployment has yet to occur.
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks in the Chikakore community, which is located just five kilometers from Kuchibuyi.
In early January, bandits detonated explosives in the area, and a tragic explosion at an Islamic school in Kuchibuyi claimed at least two lives.
