Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was notably absent from Monday’s plenary session, despite his claims over the weekend that he remains the legitimate speaker following his impeachment.

Reports from Channels Television revealed that security has been heightened at the Assembly complex, with officials now required to present valid identification cards to gain access. A significant police presence was also observed around the premises.
Monday’s plenary, presided over by the newly installed Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, marked the third consecutive session since Obasa’s removal. The embattled former speaker has been absent from all sittings since his impeachment.

During the session, the Assembly’s 39 other members, including Meranda, were seen gathered for a group photograph on the Assembly grounds. The move was interpreted as an effort to dispel rumors of division among lawmakers following Obasa’s public challenge to his removal.
Over the weekend, Obasa insisted that his impeachment did not adhere to due process, maintaining that he is still the speaker of the House.

Meanwhile, Meranda is expected to announce the appointment of chairpersons for various standing committees to oversee the activities of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across Lagos State.
The developments come amid speculation about the future direction of the Assembly under Meranda’s leadership and ongoing debates about the legitimacy of Obasa’s impeachment.
