South African model Tshego Gaelae has made history as the first Black woman to be crowned Mrs World, winning the 40th edition of the prestigious pageant held in Las Vegas, USA.
Sri Lanka’s Ishadi Amanda finished as the first runner-up, while Ploy Panperm of Thailand secured the second runner-up position.
Celebrating her victory, Gaelae took to Instagram to express her gratitude, writing: “To God Be The Glory. Thank you so much for the love and support, I am beyond grateful and elated! My beautiful South Africa, the crown is coming home.”
The Mrs South Africa organisation, which supported her journey, also celebrated the achievement, stating: “From Soweto to Vegas and now the World! The Crown is Coming Home! Thank you to everyone who supported our Queen on her incredible journey.”
Gaelae’s win comes amid growing competition between South Africa and Nigeria in global beauty pageants. In 2024, Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina made history as the first Nigerian and West African to finish as first runner-up at the Miss Universe competition in Mexico City.
Her victory marks another milestone for African representation in global pageantry, reinforcing the continent’s influence in the industry.
