The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has unveiled new changes to the player registration rules for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
Under these updated regulations, football clubs are now allowed to register a player who has already participated in either competition for another club within the same season.

This move brings the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in line with the player registration rules of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, offering clubs more flexibility in squad management.
These changes are expected to boost the appeal of both competitions, drawing in more football fans, increasing television viewership, and attracting more sponsorship opportunities both across Africa and globally. Furthermore, this adjustment could raise the competitive level of African clubs in the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States in June–July 2025.
In addition, the CAF Executive Committee has extended the player registration deadline for both tournaments to February 28, 2025.
