Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has approved the establishment of a general consulate in Wadi Halfa, Sudan, reinforcing Egypt’s commitment to supporting its neighboring country during its ongoing crisis.

According to the presidential directive:
- Article One mandates the creation of an Egyptian general consulate in Wadi Halfa, Sudan.
- Article Two states that relevant authorities must implement the decision, nullifying any conflicting provisions.
- Article Three orders the publication of the decision in the official gazette, assigning the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs to oversee its execution.
In an earlier statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in October, Egypt reiterated its dedication to Sudan’s security, stability, and unity. It pledged continued support to help Sudan navigate the severe humanitarian and infrastructural damages caused by the ongoing war.

President Sisi has consistently advocated for a political resolution to the Sudanese crisis, calling for regional and international cooperation to achieve a peaceful settlement that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
Fighting erupted in April 2023 between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army, beginning in Marawi and Khartoum before spreading nationwide. The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries.
Despite multiple ceasefire agreements brokered through talks in Jeddah throughout 2023, no lasting peace has been achieved, with both sides failing to fully implement their agreements.
Egypt’s latest diplomatic move reflects its continued engagement in Sudan’s crisis and its efforts to maintain strong bilateral relations amidst the unrest.
