The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning to police officers nationwide against human rights violations and other forms of misconduct.

During a virtual meeting with police managers on Monday, the IGP emphasized that no officer should carry assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti). This was disclosed in a statement by Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi.

Egbetokun noted that he has received numerous complaints about rights violations through the Force’s complaint channels. He warned that any officer found guilty of such offenses would face severe consequences.

He also cautioned tactical squads against abusing their authority and engaging in improper dressing, stressing the importance of adhering to approved uniforms and standard operating procedures.

Furthermore, the IGP prohibited the indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval, stating that such practices lead to unnecessary burdens and delays in justice.
