A large contingent of Boko Haram fighters has been spotted mobilizing towards the Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, where the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has its headquarters.
The movement, confirmed by sources, suggests a potential confrontation between the rival terror factions in the Lake Chad region.
The heavily armed insurgents, also known as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), were seen traveling in water vessels from the Loko Libi and Darak areas along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
Their destination, Marte, is a stronghold of ISWAP, raising concerns about an imminent clash between the two groups.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions between Boko Haram and ISWAP, which have been competing for influence and territory in the region.
