The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified that its operatives were deployed to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday at the request of the Acting Clerk of the House.

In a statement issued on Monday, the DSS explained that its presence was to maintain order following concerns over a potential security threat. The agency cited a letter from the Acting Clerk, Mr. A.T.B. Ottun, dated February 14, 2025, which was addressed to the Lagos State Director of the DSS.

The letter warned of an alleged plan to forcefully reinstate former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on February 18, 2025, which could lead to unrest.
The DSS also attached a copy of the letter to its statement, quoting Ottun’s request for enhanced security. The letter emphasized the need for increased personnel and strict access control at the Assembly premises starting Sunday, February 16, 2025, to prevent any potential breach of order.
