A growing security crisis in Burkina Faso has led to the displacement of residents from Tanwalbougou village in the eastern region, as suspected terrorist groups have overrun the community.
The villagers are seeking refuge in the nearby city of Fada N’Gourma, local sources confirmed on Monday.
Heavily armed militants stormed Tanwalbougou, forcing families to abandon their homes and livestock in search of safety.
Witnesses described the situation as dire, with people fleeing with only their belongings and many without shelter in Fada.
The attack exacerbates the worsening humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso, where large parts of the country remain under the control of non-state armed groups.
Despite efforts by the ruling authorities to combat insurgency, armed groups continue to overrun communities, fueling the displacement crisis.
