Infamous bandit leader Bello Turji has been spotted in the eastern part of Sokoto State, where he has allegedly imposed a ₦25 million levy on villages, a state legislator has claimed.
According to a report by Zagazola Makama, Aminu Boza, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, raised the alarm while addressing journalists on Tuesday, warning of Turji’s growing influence in the region.
“Bello Turji is currently in the Isa and Sabon Birni axis of Sokoto. He has even imposed a ₦25 million levy per village in some communities,” Boza alleged.
The lawmaker called for immediate action, urging security agencies and local authorities to intensify operations against the bandit leader and his network to prevent further attacks on communities.
Turji is one of Nigeria’s most notorious bandit leaders, accused of orchestrating numerous kidnappings, killings, and attacks in the Northwest region. Despite multiple military operations targeting his strongholds, reports suggest that he remains active, continuing to exert control over rural communities.
Authorities are yet to confirm Boza’s claims, but residents in the affected areas have previously reported increased bandit activities, heightening fears of further unrest.
