Four individuals have died, and two others are undergoing treatment after consuming a poisonous fish in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. The victims, identified as Fulani herders Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna, had gone on a fishing expedition at a nearby river on February 22 at around 2200hrs.
After catching and cooking the fish, they unknowingly consumed a toxic species, leading to severe illness. On February 23, they were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila, where Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo were pronounced dead by the attending doctor. The two survivors, Musa and Haruna, are currently receiving treatment at the same facility.
The incident was reported to the police by Haruna Isiaka of Chidawa Village. Authorities have deposited the deceased’s bodies at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations into the incident continue.
