A Lagos Magistrate Court has exonerated Nigerian singer Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, and Primeboy of allegations surrounding the death of late singer Mohbad.
The court’s decision was based on legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Lagos, which found no evidence linking them to Mohbad’s demise.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje cited the DPP’s advice, stating that the trio had no case to answer in connection with Mohbad’s death.
Additionally, Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, was also cleared of any criminal liability.
However, the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of the late singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, will face prosecution for reckless and negligent acts.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice.
The Lagos State Police Command had arrested Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy, and others in connection with the case, but the new ruling has cleared their names.
The decision has raised fresh concerns over whether justice is being adequately served, with speculation that key figures may have escaped justice.
